Yuji Nunokawa, who was He?
Nunokawa is most known in the anime business for founding Studio Pierrot, the powerful The Association of Japanese Animations collective, and countless other projects that helped the industry expand. Yuji Nunokawa was born on 11th February 1947, in Sakata City, Yamanashi Prefecture. He was reared by tailors and has always loved to sketch. Nunokawa went to Tokyo at the suggestion of the advisor of his high school art club and graduated in 1967 from the Nippon Design Welfare College.
Nunokawa began in the anime business as a subcontractor for TCJ. He worked as a freelancer on several Mushi Projects and Tsuburaya Enterprises productions.
Yuji Nunokawa’s Professional Career:

Throughout their career, the executive had a variety of responsibilities, including producing, directing, and panning. Nunokawa helped manage some of the big shonen games since Pierrot titles inevitably made up the bulk of their output. For example, the director worked as an executive producer on multiple Naruto films. I also helped manage the series from the start. Nunokawa was involved in the production of the Bleach films. The author has contributed to well-known novels like Yu Yu Hakusho and Urusei Yatsura.
About Pierrot Studio:
In May 1979, Nunokawa officially established Studio Pierrot by assembling talent from Mushi Production and Tatsunoko Production. Pierrot earned fame less than ten years after debuting in the 1980s, but when Yu Yu Hakusho debuted in 1992. Pierrot was already a well-known brand in the animation industry by the time Naruto debuted in October 2002, and it has since thrived. The studio has lately won awards for its work on shows like Black Clover and Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War.
What Happened During Mushi Productions’ Crash?
He received an invitation to join the founding group of the Soeisha animation company. Following Mushi Productions, Yuji is known as Bandai Namco Filmworks or Sunrise. He refused the offer, but in 1971, after getting a job offer from Hiroshi Sasagawa, he joined the Tatsunoko Production team as a character designer. Following the death of the company’s founder, Tatsuo Yoshida, Nunokawa formed a collective with animators Mitsuo Kaminashi and Hiroko Tokita in a Kichijoji apartment. This includes animation directors Toriumi Hisayuki and Masami Anno, becoming Studio Pierrot, of which Nunokawa became president. Its core tenet was to make animator-focused animation with reasonable production schedules.
Nunokawa Had a Hand in Japanese Animation:
In the 2000s, he was a founding member of The Association of Japanese Animations, which runs the Suginami Animation Museum today, publishes the annual report, and collaborates with the Ministry of Economy and Trade. Nunokawa was vice-chairman before being appointed chairman from 2009 until 2014. Nunokawa established NUROANI Juku to educate and teach aspiring animators, producers, planners, and directors. He worked with animators Noriyuki Abe, Kazunori Mizuno, and Atsushi Wakabayashi. Nunokawa taught at the institution until his death.

On December 25th, the anime business lost one of its brightest executives. Studio Pierrot’s inventor is claimed to have died at home. Yuji Nunokawa, 75, died unexpectedly on December 25th.
