William Watson, the 80-year-old man had a tragic death in a Blackburn road traffic collision. The family described that the grandpa was a ” proud family man”. William Watson also known as Bill Watson on last Friday afternoon was struck on Blackburn road in the Astley Bridge neighborhood. He then died of his wounds at the site.

His family paid tribute: “William Watson, known to all as Bill, was taken from us on the 16th of December 2022 in tragic circumstances.” His relatives speaking about William said that he was “fiercely protective of all of his family”.

William was a retired Egerton garage owner who spent his entire life living there. He was a proud father and a cherished grandfather. His family said: “Watson cherished going for walks, spending time in the Lake District, and going on excursions with his partner Jean. He adored his grandchildren dearly and was highly protective of them and the rest of his family.”

William’s family has asked for privacy while they mourn their loss. He will surely be missed by the people who know him and adore him. The tragic accident took place around noon on Blackburn road in the Astley Bridge neighborhood. Thus the junction near Crompton Way was shut down for a while. Firefighters, Police, and an ambulance arrived at the scene within no time. As per the representative for North West Ambulance Service, a pedestrian and a vehicle were involved in a road traffic collision.

Police Officers were called to Whalley New Road and they closed Whalley New Road between Whalley Range and Whalley Old Road. A representative of the police said: “We were called at 1.43 pm today to reports of a road traffic collision in Whalley New Road, Blackburn.

“One of the cars involved had been reported stolen a short time earlier.

“A man has been taken to hospital with chest injuries.

“A road closure remains in place at this time and motorists are advised to avoid the area.”

Local people showing concern requested to make the crossroads more friendly when construction on the road is ongoing. Although the construction plan aims to provide better facilities for cyclist and pedestrians and also to reduce traffic and enhances safety measures.
