On the 50th anniversary of the accident that killed his first wife and their baby, President Joe Biden held a private memorial on Sunday. In November 1972, Biden had just been elected to Senate; on that day he was not in the car with his wife while his 30-year-old wife Neilia and 1-year-old daughter Naomi were crushed by a tractor-trailer on Dec. 18, while she was going out to buy a Christmas tree. The couple has two sons named Beau and Hunter, who are 4 and years old respectively at that time. Both sons were also in the car at that time and both were seriously injured.

Just after this event at the age of 30, Biden was seriously thinking about giving up on his fledgling political career. But he stayed in the office after getting some serious advice from other senators and maintaining communication between Washington to Delaware. After that in 1977, Biden married Jill Jacob and was blessed with a daughter, Ashley. Both joined him on Sunday along with Hunter and many grandchildren of the president at St. Joseph on the Brandywine Roman Catholic Church. After completing the memorial service, the family walked out toward the graves carrying flowers. The other son of Biden, Beau Biden died due to brain cancer in 2015 at the age of 46. He is also buried in the same place.
