Rosario Dawson and Senator Cory Booker have ended their relationship of more than two years, confirms PEOPLE.
The former couple is no longer together, but they are still close friends, according to a source close to the New Jersey legislator. (A Booker spokesman declined to comment, and a Dawson representative did not reply to a request.)
In the summer of 2018, during a political fundraiser for a friend in common, Dawson and Booker first met. Even though they didn’t hit it off right away, they reconciled many months later. Rosario Dawson and Senator Cory Booker reportedly broke up after dating for more than two years, according to PEOPLE.
The US Senator from New Jersey and Dawson are no longer an item, according to a source close to him, although they are still close friends. After meeting in 2018 at a political event, the two started dating in 2019.
The couple sparked romance rumors after attending a performance of Dear Evan Hansen together in New York City. In March 2019, Dawson confirmed her relationship with lawmakers when she was accosted at an airport, calling Booker a “great human being.”
Most recently, Dawson accompanied Booker to President Joe Biden’s inauguration in Washington, DC in January 2021. That same year, the actress called her boyfriend “Ted Lasso of the Senate” when asked for her thoughts on Chris Redd’s impression of Booker during a recent Saturday Night Live cold open.
While Dawson wasn’t offended by Redd’s impression, she said the comedian didn’t quite get it “quite right,” telling TMZ, “I’m really looking forward to someone doing an impression that actually comes across as Cory.” So I’ll throw that out here, one little idea: It’s literally like the Senate’s Ted Lasso, so maybe do something that’s that kind of rotation?”
A couple that includes a US Senator and former presidential candidate and an actress who is also an activist need to be able to keep two regular schedules and times apart, which they say they have resolved with weekly meetings, FaceTime calls, and gestures romantic like Booker’s habit of reading them on the phone and sending music to Dawson.
The pair made a significant step forward when Dawson moved in with Booker and established herself in Newark, New Jersey, in May 2020, during the height of Booker’s bid to become the Democratic presidential nominee.
