Gary Cannalte’s wife, Jean Marty, teaches seventh-grade Language Arts at Savanna Oaks Middle School in Fitchburg. Charlie, his son, will be in fourth grade at Verona’s Sugar Creek Elementary School. Jean’s cause of death was not reported by any web media or her family members. There isn’t much information available about Jean Marty’s death. Gary posted about his wife’s death on his official Facebook page, saying, “I don’t know how to express this, and I’m sure better words will come at some time, but my wife of 26 years, Jean Marty, died away unexpectedly last evening.” I believe she went out the way she wanted to go. I was sitting on the couch, watching food shows on television. Jean Marty is a seventh-grade Language Arts teacher at Fitchburg’s Savanna Oaks Middle School. My son Chuck is a college student at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee studying Graphic Design. “Joe,” our dog, has been with us since he was a puppy. For the past 26 years, we have been mourning the passing of Jean Marty, the wife of our friend and lifelong supporter, Gary Canale.
Throughout this painful loss, our thoughts and prayers are with Gary, his family, and his friends. In the name of the Midwest Severe Storm Tracking and Response Center, the Midwest Disaster Assessment Team, and myself, may the love and memories she left behind for the love and care she provided so many people live on. I was standing in a little chamber just off the altar at St. James Church in Verona 25 years ago, just around this time (just before 1 PM), waiting for the song “Edelweiss” to begin, which was my cue to enter the church and walk to the front of the altar and wait for the next song.
