Founder of Malaysia’s Public Bank Teh Hong Piow Died

With a market valuation of 85 billion ringgit, the bank is the second-largest firm listed on Bursa Malaysia. Teh began his financial career in 1950 and had 72 years of banking and finance experience. Teh Hong Piow, the founder and emeritus chairman of Malaysia’s second-largest bank, died peacefully on Monday morning at 92.

Who is Teh Hong Piow?

Teh Hong Piow was a Malaysian businessman and banker. He was the founder, chairman, director, and adviser to Public Bank Berhad in Malaysia. Teh was one of only three people in the country who could own more than 10% of a domestic. Teh had received approximately 45 honours during his career, including the Asia Pacific Brands Foundation’s title for ‘Greatest Malaysian Banker of All Time.

Teh Hong Piow Died:

“On behalf of the Public Bank Group, we send our deepest sympathy to Teh’s family,” Public Bank stated in a statement. Teh was born on March 14, 1930, in Singapore and received his formal elementary at the Anglo-Chinese School, according to a biography note on Public Bank’s website.

In 1956, he married Puan Seri Tay Sock Noy, with whom he had four children. Public Bank’s shares were down four sen to 4.36 ringgit.
