Harry and Meghan Markle, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were encouraged to skip the King Charles coronation ceremony by a group of senior military officials, British Politicians and historians. The group have joined together to demand that the couple should not attend the coronation ceremony at Westminster Abbey going to be held on May 6 next year. The group includes David Mellor, former conservative leader lain Duncan Smith, Lady Antonia Fraser, Conservative MP Bob Seely and historian Lord Andrew Roberts. They demanded that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle “categorically shouldn’t come” to the historic ceremony.
Statements made by the Conservative leader and Historians
Senior Tory David Mellor told Mail on Sunday-
“They make money out of selling their family down the river. I think it should be made clear that the British people do not want them there.
“They shouldn’t come to the coronation. They categorically shouldn’t come.”
Lady Antonia Fraser said-
“I hope they don’t arrive because I want the King and Queen to be the centre of attention. It worries me that if they come the cameras might waste time on them. They should stay holding hands in Hollywood.’
Retired Rear Admiral Chris Parry told: “The coronation is another red carpet event for them – and they are likely to tread and tell.
“They are not consistent with the dignity and the importance of the occasion.”
The survey was conducted and was found that nearly half of the people agree that the couple should not come to the coronation ceremony as it would divert the focus from the king and queen and all the attention is carried away by the couple.
Why Should not Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Attend the Coronation?
Prince Harry and Meghan have received criticism for their Netflix documental series after the three episodes were streamed last Thursday. The upcoming documentaries are expected to show even more information about their relationship prior to marriage and about the couple’s break with the Royal Family. The series garnered a massive viewership.
The series has become one of the reasons why Britons did not want Harry and Meghan to attend the ceremony as its episodes comprised of various allegations including King Charles’s failure to take care of Harry after the death of Princess Diana and the Royal Family’s inherent bias over Meghan’s ethnicity. The head of the Royal protection command stated that the allegations have put the Royal family’s protection in to danger.
Opponents also thought that if they come they would certainly grab all the attention and would spoil the big day of King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla. They should skip the event to remain the King and Queen in the spotlight.
