A 60-year-old woman is missing from Maui, Hawaii after sighting a shark due to a possible shark attack. Authorities are searching for the lady since she disappeared. On Thursday a man after sighting the shark quickly swam to the shore and called 911 when he didn’t see his wife. His wife was last seen wearing a blue bathing suit. Later a snorkel set and a part of the bathing suit were found at the shore.
The encounter was supposed to have occurred about 50 yards from shore at Keawakapu Point in South Maui. In Maui Hawaii, three months prior also a woman was injured due to a serious shark bite.
Dan Dennison, the spokesperson of the Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources in a news conference said-
“The Maui Fire Department and Maui Ocean Safety officers spent Thursday looking for the woman in the water”
The United Coast Guard Hawaii Pacific also tweeted that rescuers are searching for the lady with Boats, helicopters, planes and jet skis. The species and size of shark are not known. The area is restricted where the shark was seen and people are being asked to avoid the area. The area was closed until the authorities reconsider the situation.
Dennison in the conference said that the authorities could not reveal the information due to their policies on shark-related incidents but said that searching is going on for the lady who possibly disappeared due to a shark attack.
The rescuers resumed searches Friday nightfall empty-handed. The officials could not find the missing woman.
