During the summer, he relished the freedom to swim, fish, and boat to the lake. When he was a student at Deephaven High School, John was an excellent athlete, collecting twelve letters in football, basketball, tennis, and track. After getting his diploma in 1951, John enrolled at the University of Minnesota but was drafted and served as a U.S. Army doctor in Germany during the Korean War.
The career of John Froyd:
John began his broadcasting career more than four decades ago as a DJ at KFAM radio in Minnesota. He eventually worked as a news director and broadcaster at the stations of Tomah, Wisconsin, Rochester, Minnesota, and Green Bay, Wisconsin. When he was there, he made friends with several Green Bay Packers football players and even called the infamous “Ice Bowl” game. It resulted in a lifetime of Packers fandom. While living in Green Bay, John changed careers and produced instructional television programmes. After finding he missed reporting the news, he accepted a position as news director and anchor at KCMT/KNMT in Alexandria, Minnesota, in 1971. For years, he worked relentlessly to expand the department.
