Charlie Crist has previously served as governor of Florida, and he is currently running for re-election in Tallahassee. He has travelled in many different directions over the meantime. Charlie Crist’s campaign for a second term as governor of Florida has actually taken him in a number of different ways. Like Crist, a longstanding Pinellas County resident, he is battling Republican incumbent Gov. Ron DeSantis on topics like abortion, voting rights, education, and personal liberties. This may surprise new Floridians who will be casting their first ballots in an election.
They might not be aware that Crist, 66, served as governor of Florida from 2007 to 2011 in a Republican capacity, taking Jeb Bush’s place since he was term-limited after winning the general election over Jim Davis, a Democrat. Before becoming governor, Crist held a variety of positions in the state, including U.S. senator, commissioner of education, and attorney general. And most recently, he represented District 13 in the U.S. House, which extends from Clearwater through southern Pinellas County. But what’s so fascinating about his bid for the governor’s office is the period in between and his transition from Republican to Independent to Democrat.
