Caraxes, also known as the Blood Wyrm, is one of the dragons we’ve seen many in House of the Dragon. Caraxes is Daemon Targaryen’s dragon mount, poised to become the most significant fighter and dragon rider on the Blacks’ side during the Dance of the Dragons. But one thing people have observed about Caraxes is that he is significantly different from the other Targaryen dragons. So, what makes Caraxes stand out from the rest of the dragons?
Who is Caraxes?
Caraxes is distinct from the other Targaryen dragons due to a creative decision made by the showrunners, who wanted the dragons to seem more diversified than they did in Game of Thrones. Of course, since Caraxes is known as the Blood Wyrm. It is worth noting that not all dragons resemble one another, just as different people have various physical characteristics. In that aspect, Caraxes is still a Targaryen dragon in genealogy, but he has developed a distinct appearance compared to the other dragons. That being said, let’s go through why Caraxes look so different.
Why Do Caraxes Look Different Than the Other Dragons?
It was evident that we would see a variety of dragons because the tale tackles the events leading up to it. As a result, several dragons have already debuted in the series, and we will see even more when season 2 arrives in about two years. Of course, we’ve already seen a fair share of dragons. But the dragon we’ve seen almost as many times as any other in the saga is Caraxes, the dragon who is mated with Prince Daemon Targaryen. But one thing we’ve seen about Caraxes is that he doesn’t resemble any other. Dragons in House of the Dragons are unique in their own right, but Caraxes appears to be a distinct breed of the individual due to his long serpentine-like neck and the fact that he is much thinner than the others. This means that the dragons differ from the ones Daenerys Targaryen had in Game of Thrones since they all looked the same except for specific colors and markings on their bodies. Dragons suggest that they all came from the same clutch of eggs, as rumors indicated that Dreamfyre laid them. But we don’t know for sure.

What sort Of Dragon Is Caraxes?
At this point, it’s reasonable to assume that the dragons are also quite different, as they don’t all look the same. In that aspect, we don’t know what kind of dragon Caraxes is, but we do know that he was nicknamed the Blood Wyrm because he resembled a Firewyrm. Caraxes’ neck was nearly as long as the rest of his body, so he always had a longer neck than the other dragons. It is commonly assumed that dragons were bred from the world’s existing Firewyrms and Wyverns.
