Johnny Vegas Early Life
In Thatto Health, St. Helens, Lancashire, Michael Joseph Pennington, the son of Laurence and Patricia Pennington, was born as Johnny Vegas. He was the youngest of the couple’s four children. He had three siblings: an older sister, Catharine, and two older brothers, Robert and Mark. He was raised a Roman Catholic and had his official education at West Park School in St. Helens on Alder Hey Road. Later, he attended St Joseph College, an Upholland residential school seminary. He returned after four terms because he missed home even though his original goal was to prepare himself for the priesthood. Later, he applied to study art and ceramics at Middlesex University. Three years later, he earned a third-class degree in the subject.
After finishing his schooling, he made an unsuccessful attempt to pursue a profession in ceramics. He took up various odd and low-paying jobs to make ends meet. He began by selling boiler insurance, packaging Jif bottles in a factory, and working in an Argos warehouse. He then unintentionally got a job as a bartender at the Brown Edge bar in Thatto Heath. In the UK, he made his acting debut as a competitor on the game show Win, Lose, or Draw. He first used the stage name Johnny Vegas while performing and has continued to use it ever since.
