A former Democratic representative from Hawaii confirmed her decision to resign from the party, declaring it an “elitist cabal of warmongers,” and she extended an invitation to her “common sense independent-minded” colleagues to fall into line.
Former presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard claimed that the Democratic Party is led by “cowardly wokeness” in a video posted on Twitter on Tuesday.
“I can no longer remain in today’s Democratic Party that is now under the complete control of an elitist cabal of warmongers driven by cowardly wokeness, who divide us by racializing every issue and stoke anti-white racism,” Gabbard said.
Gabbard added that the party works to “demonize the police and protect criminals at the expense of law-abiding Americans”.
The development coincides with increasing polarisation between the 2 significant US parties in the run-up to the November 8 midterm elections, which will decide whether Republicans or Democrats would control Congress. The results will affect President Joe Biden’s second term as well.
From 2013 until 2021, Gabbard served as the 2nd Congressional District of Hawaii’s representative. The Iraq War veteran campaigned for president in 2020 but was unsuccessful.
Gabbard has criticized the Biden administration frequently and criticized how he handled Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
She claimed the administration “does not care about the American people” over the weekend.
She wrote in a tweet, “Permanent Washington loots us to serve the interests of the arms-manufacturing global oligarchy while we struggle to pay for gas, food, and rent and our soldiers go on food stamps.”
