Top Gun 2, called Top Gun: Maverick, is nearly here after what has seemed like interminable delays for even the most patient of fans.

Release Date of ‘Top Gun: Maverick’

Before we get into all the delays, let’s get to the point. Currently, the UK and US release dates of Top Gun: Maverick have been set for May 25, 2022, and May 27, 2022, respectively. According to the Wall Street Journal, both Netflix and Apple requested that Paramount sell the film to them for streaming. However, Paramount has decided to put the film on the big screen, which is a positive sign for the industry.

If the July 12, 2019 release date for Top Gun 2 holds true, then we can expect the sequel to land on our screens little under three years after its initial release date. After a one-year delay, the new dates of June 24th, 2020 in the United States and July 17th, 2020 in the United Kingdom were announced.

Trailer of the ‘Top Gun: Maverick’

On July 18, 2019, during Comic-Con International, the first teaser was unveiled, which now seems like a distinct planet. It didn’t take long for the film’s release to be met with criticism from fans who saw striking visual similarities with the Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer.

Top Gun fans got an early Christmas present this year when the second trailer dropped on December 16th. Fan-made LEGO versions of the trailer are equally as impressive as the originals, if not more so. The first 13 minutes of the film and a new trailer were revealed at CinemaCon in August 2021. Maverick defies Admiral and reaches Mach 10 in the first scene, according to Deadline.
