David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, the creators of Game of Thrones, are behind Netflix’s forthcoming adolescent rock drama Metal Lords.
Background of the ‘Metal Lords’
As a quick refresher, Netflix just secured a multi-year contract with Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D. B. Weiss to develop new shows. In addition to a variety of forthcoming projects, Metal Lords is the most likely to come to fruition.
David Benioff is in charge of the show’s production, although D. B. Weiss is responsible for the script. The film’s production firm is Bighead Littlehead. Greg Shapiro, well renowned for his work on The Hurt Locker, will serve as a producer on this film as well.
Filmmaker Peter Sollett, who won the Cannes Film Festival’s Cinefondation Award, will helm the film. In addition to Freeheld featuring Elliot Page from The Umbrella Academy, Sollett has also directed episodes of Hulu’s The Path and HBO’s Vinyl. The next live-action version of the famous video game Minecraft will be directed by him as well.
Plot of the ‘Metal Lords’
Jaeden Martell and Adrian Greensmith are high school students who form a metal band with the help of a female cellist (Isis Hainsworth) in an effort to win a local Battle of the Bands.
Weiss’ interest in metal music isn’t wholly out of the field. However, he did convince members of the heavy metal band Mastodon to portray wildlings and White Walkers in a number of episodes of Game of Thrones. Ed Sheeran made a guest appearance on Game of Thrones, but that’s not the point. Morello, on the other hand, is a genuine rock star. In addition, he and Weiss seem to have formed a close friendship when picking up their children from the same school.
