On Saturday, The U.S. Embassy in Kyiv, Ukraine announced that the “security assistance” worth $200 million which also includes a package for Ukrainian troops had arrived.

The Security Assistance

The U.S. embassy posted on Facebook stating that the donation worth $200 million from the US has arrived on the morning of January 22, at Kyiv airport Boryspil. As part of the security assistance, 200 thousand pounds of lethal weapons, including ammunition for the front line defenders of Ukraine, demonstrates the United States’ firm commitment to Ukraine’s sovereign right to self-defense

Moreover, in a published article of The Hill, the embassy stated that the US has already contributed more than $650 million of security assistance to Ukraine in the previous year and more than $2.7 billion since 2014.

In addition, the US plans to continue to assist and support Ukraine’s Armed Forces in their ongoing effort to defend Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity against Russian aggression. President Biden warned President Putin, if Russia further invade Ukraine, the United States will provide additional defensive material to Ukraine.

The Russian Invasion

The U.S. and other nations are concerned that Russia is planting itself for another invasion into the former Soviet nation again, as the Russian has already done way back in 2014 when invaded Ukraine and occupied the Crimean Peninsula.

President Biden made statements this week regarding garnered backlash in the U.S. during a nearly two-hour news conference, the president appeared to suggest that Russia would deal less severe consequences if it engaged in a “minor incursion” in Ukraine.  However, the White House and Biden sought to clear up those remarks immediately afterward, underscoring that any military deployment by Russia into Ukraine would be considered as an invasion.

Furthermore, Biden has previously threatened Russia with economically devastating sanctions, if Putin still chooses to invade Ukraine. Additionally, Vice President Harris reiterate Biden’s sentiments during a testy interview with journalist Savannah Guthrie this week.
