The United States will commemorate Martin Luther King Jr. today, a time when people across the country come together to honor the life and legacy of the civil rights leader, according to The Sun.

According to Fortune, the federal holiday MLK Day was established in 1983 to honor Martin Luther King Jr., and every year, it occurs on the third Monday of January. It is the first national holiday in the United States to honor an African American.
Many businesses close on national holidays; thus, some people may wonder if mail delivery will continue as usual on MLK Day in 2022 when the holiday falls on a weekday. The answer? No, they aren’t open. Mail service facilities will be shut for retail transactions on Monday, January 17, in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday, which means no residential or business deliveries, as per Newsweek.

Will Resume The Next Day
On the other hand, regular mail may be unavailable. Still, since Priority Mail Express delivers every day of the year, even on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the most time-sensitive packages can be delivered as usual to recipients. However, on the federal holiday, stimulus checks are not a priority. The most recent federal stimulus payments totaled $1,400 in value.
Beginning on Tuesday, January 18, the United States Postal Service will resume regular mail delivery. Qualified taxpayers must file their tax returns by 2021 in order to receive the stimulus checks they are due. When determining a claimant’s eligibility for assistance, even newborns are considered. According to the Internal Revenue Service, tax returns for the year 2021 will be processed beginning on January 24, 2022, according to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
