The Catch-Up Payment For 2022
According to The Sun, there will be a catch-up provision in 2022 for families who were eligible for the extended federal Child Tax Credit but did not receive payments. Families with children under the age of six must pay $3,600. The maximum award is $3,000 for parents with minor children aged 6 to 17 years old. Child Tax Credit families received a portion of the first half of the extended credit in monthly payments during their first two years of eligibility.
Taxpayers who are eligible for the Child Tax Credit will start receiving IRS Letter 6419 in January 2022 that will include information about the total amount of advance payments received in 2021 as well as the number of eligible children used to calculate the advance payments. Any correspondence from the IRS regarding the advance payment of the Child Tax Credit should be kept in a file for future reference, according to the IRS.
