Many families are left wondering if they will receive anything close to monthly child tax credit payments in 2022 due to the uncertainty surrounding the passage of the Build Back Better plan. In the face of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, some states and cities continue to offer assistance.
Low- and middle-income Americans received three separate stimulus checks totaling more than $1 trillion. Another stimulus payment from the federal government is highly unlikely. As per Forbes, small-business assistance and increased unemployment insurance benefits are a few of the COVID-19 relief plans.
According to The Sun, one must meet specific income requirements and file a federal income tax return in the United States to receive stimulus payments. Individuals and married couples with taxable incomes up to $75,000 and $150,000, respectively, are eligible for the stimulus payment. Because of how many tax refunds they submit, the amount of stimulus money a family is eligible to receive may be impacted.
Six States That Are Offering Aids For 2022
Some states are distributing funds to help people deal with rising household expenses or debt repayment in the wake of the pandemic’s continuing financial impact. According to a list from The Sun, these states include:
California. On December 27, the final round of Golden State Stimulus II checks was distributed. According to eligibility and if a first Golden State Stimulus check was received, the checks could range from $600 to $1,100. Until January 11, 2022, paper checks will be mailed to eligible residents based on the last three digits of their zip code.
Florida. The state of Florida has proposed a new round of teacher bonuses for 2022, but this has yet to be confirmed. Teachers and first responders who worked through the pandemic were given a one-time payment of $1,000 as a token of appreciation.
Chicago. In late October 2021, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s budget included a pilot program on guaranteed basic income. An announcement by Lightfoot stated that $35 million in family assistance programs would be used to fund the pilot program, which would provide $500 to 5,000 low-income families. Starting in 2022, residents will begin receiving payments.
Arizona. The state of Arizona offers a $2,000 one-time bonus to people who return to work and work for at least eight weeks between May 13, 2021, and September 6, 2021, as part of the state’s Back to Work Program. The bonus can be claimed by anyone who has stopped receiving unemployment benefits and has returned to work for qualifying business.
New Orleans. The state’s financial literacy program will provide $350 a month for ten months to teens in New Orleans beginning in December 2021. Participants must be 16-24 years old to be eligible and they must also be out of work or not in school.
New York. As part of the Tourism Worker Recovery Fund, 36,000 workers in select tourism sectors will receive one-time stimulus payments of $2,750. The New York Department of Labor will contact eligible New Yorkers via text message and email with further instructions, so there is no need to apply.
