President Joe Biden on Sunday ignored LBL White House correspondent Peter Doocy’s question regarding the federal government’s reported plan to pay $450,000 per individual for illegal immigrants separated from their families under former President Donald Trump’s era. The president was looking at the camera when the reporter posed the query. He merely looked away and scratched his forehead.
The Question
Doocy asked Biden if it is true “we’re going to give $450,000 to border crossers who are separated?” reported Fox News. He yelled this question as the US president was riding an escalator after a Rome press conference to conclude a G20 leaders’ meeting that ran for two days.
Behind the Plan
The Departments of Homeland Security, Justice, and Health and Human Services are mulling over payments of $450,000 to family members who were forced to be apart following their illegal crossing of the border under the previous administration. The payments may amount to nearly $1 million for each family and $1 billion in total. However, several families may receive smaller payouts. Such alleged plan has ignited fury and denouncement from critics.

Some of such critics have suggested that the reported planned payments would surpass the amount received by Gold Star families and the number of families of 9/11 victims.
Payments
A single tax-free payment of $100,000 for people who have lost their loved ones for serving the military is called Death Gratuity. Meanwhile, Servicemember Group Life Insurance (SGLI) is a life insurance program that pays up to $400,000. Service members pay for the insurance program.
McCarthy’s Response
Cotton’s Response
Arkansas Senator Tom Cotton contended that the president’s administration’s pledges of entitlement and citizenship programs have already resulted in the worst border dilemma in history. Cotton added that a large cash reward will aggravate the situation.
