Three-year-old Greencastle girl, Logan Starliper died of mixed-drug intoxication on January 5, 2018. The child’s system contained methamphetamines, a stimulant known as meth, and buprenorphine, an opioid used to treat drug addiction. Her body was neglected for almost a day before calling 911.
Brian Bennett, her mother’s boyfriend, proceeded to get more meth and conducted multiple Google searches on child CPR while she lay dead in her bed. During his trial in court, Bennet said on the stand that it was horrible and he just panicked and that he didn’t want to sobriety from the high.
2 Persons Found Guilty in Fatal Death of the 3-Year-Old Kid
Two men were found guilty on Thursday of her death. Brian Bennett, 32, of Greencastle, was convicted of the most serious offense against him, third-degree murder, but was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the death of his partner’s daughter, Logan Starliper. He was also found guilty of drug delivery, child endangerment, criminal use of a communication facility, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Thomas Keogh, 66, of Connecticut, was found guilty on drug distribution resulting in death, delivery of a controlled substance, unlawful use of a communication facility, and corrupt organization.
In December of this year, Starliper’s mother, Brittany Higgins, entered a no-contest plea to third-degree murder. She was sentenced to between 10 and 20 years in jail.
Child Abuse Began in 2018
The abuse began well before Jan. 5, 2018, as evidenced by photos presented during the trial. Bennett and Logan’s mother, Brittany Higgins, was addicted to meth, and her rage at the kids for getting in their way frequently turned physical. Bennett also claimed that he would physically punish Logan and her elder brother Landon, despite the fact that he was not their real father.
The small child was clothed in Hello Kitty pajamas and surrounded by toy animals in disturbing photos taken at the crime scene. Logan’s forehead had blunt force damage, as well as red, irritated markings around her mouth and cheeks from vomit remaining on her skin for an extended period of time, according to an expert pathologist, Dr. Samuel Land.
However, this wasn’t just a case of child abuse. The Starliper case has been chaotic, with nine people being charged with various levels of involvement in the three and a half years following Logan’s death.
Six of the defendants in the case agreed to plea deals. Other defendants pleaded guilty to drug delivery that resulted in death, as well as criminal charges of corrupt organization and conspiracy.
