A Michigan mother has been charged with murder after her toddler daughter’s corpse was discovered inside a trash bag with knife wounds.
Body of a 3-Year-Old Toddler Found Inside a Garbage Bag
In a recently published article in Newsweek, Sutton Mosser, a 3-year-old girl, was discovered dead after police responded to a home on Cedar Lake Road in Oscoda Township early Friday morning, according to WJRT-TV. According to a probable cause affidavit, Johnson’s brother phoned 911 about 4 a.m. after discovering a black trash bag with a human foot protruding from it at the house where Sutton resided with her mother and grandmother.
However, Johnson was not present at the time of the incident. Officers found the woman, mother of the toddler, wandering over train lines more than four hours later. According to the affidavit, she informed police she didn’t want to speak about her daughter’s death.
Additionally, the finding was discovered a day after Johnson’s brother inquired about her child’s whereabouts, according to the affidavit. She is said to have urged him to mind his own business.
Iosco County Prosecutor Released a Statement
Johnson, according to Iosco County Prosecutor James Bacarella, may be sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole if convicted of murder. He called the 3-year-old girl’s death “terrible” and said such a crime was uncommon in the area.
Justine Johnson, 22, was charged with a count of felony murder and a count of first-degree child abuse. Bacarella said “Certainly, there’ve been homicides in the county previously. I don’t know of any that have involved a young child.”
Justine Johnson was charged with both counts on Monday and pled not guilty to both. Later this month, a probable cause conference will be held. She is still being detained without bail at the Iosco County Jail.
